My goal of updating once/day

February 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Looking at my “recent drafts” folder, I’ve got about 6 blog posts I began but never finished over the last few months and that’s kinda lame so I’m going to attempt to write at least once daily on this blog to keep the “sword sharp.” Today I’m working on Verde PR stuff – the Veltec page and getting the Osprey brand team project off the ground. It’s a beautiful day here in Boulder – February 5, 2009 – and it’s supposed to be a high of about 65 degrees. I would love to sneak in a bike ride today and I’ve got my first professional Zen Shiatsu massage this afternoon at 3:30. I’m super excited to see how a full session, by a seasoned Shiatsu pro will feel. The Shiatsu class I’m in can feel half amazing, half torturous as you have 18 students attempting techniques they’ve never tried before…ON YOU. Ouch. I’ll post my reaction to the massage tomorrow. Back to work! Going to keep working from home today if this ghengis, pirated wi/fi holds up. If not, it’s off to Amante Uptown.

First nordic ski of this winter

December 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Went up to Eldora, the “blowzone,” as I lovingly refer to it – but to my delight it was calm, very CALM! It was great – you can’t beat a ski area that’s a 40 min. drive from home, so when it’s good, it’s pretty much GREAT. As they say “friends don’t let friends drive I-70,” and all that jazz. Growing up here but not being into nordic, this was actually the first time I’ve skated Eldora. I’ve always heard people rant about how hilly it is, and it was for the most part, but I managed to find some nice “green” runs that were largely flat, or roll-y at worst.

It’s amazing how cycling can make you one of the most fit athletes among other sports, but as soon as your upper body plays a role in your speed, you suffer like a little girl. That was me til about 2 hours into my ski today. I finally realized that if I wanted to save my lungs all I had to do was stop “poling.” My last few laps of “Meadows” and “Phoebe” were the best of the day – fast, pole-less until I really needed ‘em, and conversation with a new Rocky Mounts-Izze rider (a girl (can’t remember the name – who killed me on the skis!).

Some fun characters in the rental shop at Eldora. A real short guy with opinions on EVERYTHING and a guy from the U.K. who related to me b/c of my obvious love of cycling. Ran into Bobby (owner of Rocky Mounts), Rich (?) a RM-Izze rider, and the new woman (XTerra and Mtn I think).

Really, really need to get my own skis, bindings, boots. I want nothing more than to replace my lunch time road rides with skate ski workouts at North Boulder Park.
